It's been almost 3 months!

Wow! It's been almost 3 months since we arrived in Nassau. What a whirlwind. This blog will hopefully be easier to maintain than our website and we can cut that cost out of our budget eventually.

There are days when it seems like we just got here and there are days when it seems as if we have been here for years. I have mastered the roads on the island without much trouble. David on the other hand, only drives from the house to the Centre and back in the dark each day, so it is difficult to learn the island that way. I have been able to find the best bargains so far at the different stores available. There isn't a Walmart, so you have to be creative.

Things at the Centre are going well. David is finding out that they have been without proper maintenance for too long. His project list is quite extensive, but he has been able to check some things off. He is finding that the experience he gained at Messiah College has been very helpful as far as maintaining some of the A/C units in the main offices. This has kept the costs down considerably. He has been able to create more ventilation in the kitchen area for Miss Ada, our cook. What a difference that makes when you have 4 burners going on the stove for hours.

Travis, Martin and Hunter were able to spend a day working with a team from San Antonio. They were finishing walls and windows in the new dorm at the local Teen Challenge building close to the Centre. The knowledge that they have from working in Mexico and Mississippi proved to be a great help to this team! I am so proud of my boys.

We have been able to spend a little time with some of the interns and staff at the Centre. Our goal is to create regular time for them to spend time at our house for rest, food and relaxation.

Thanks for reading - we will add more soon.
